Street Revolution Rules for competitions


1.) Dancers may only dance in one grade category at any event.

2.) Age groups …. Organisers are requested to use similar age ranges as below but are free to change age ranges as they deem fit.

U’8/U’10/U’12/U’14/U’16/U’18 and over 18years.

3.) Grades for Solo’s and pairs.

In solo and pairs events no status is lost when there are 6 entries or less in an event.

a) First timer’s events. Dancers may dance in first timer events but upon achieving 3 finals or winning a first timer event they will automatically move up to the next section.

b)  Open events. Open to all competitors, any dancer making an open final must remain in open grade.

4) Grades and rules for team & group events. Group grades : first timers/closed/open. Teams: Beginner/Closed and open.

A group may consist of any number of dancers from 4 -7 and may dance for a maximum time of 90 seconds (open groups 2 mins) a team may consist of a minimum of 8 dancers and a maximum of 24 and may dance up to 2 minutes (2 and a half minutes open teams) all groups and teams may dance to their own music.


Please note that dancers can only dance in one team or group during the day i.e. someone can not dance in u16 closed group with 5 others then in an u16 open group with different members.

5.) MUSIC for teams and groups should not contain abusive or emotive words.

6.) Costume restrictions

a) All outfits must be age appropriate and in keeping with street/hip hop clothing style and personal names and team/group names are allowed on the costumes.

b) All dancers must wear suitable footwear that is securely fastened.

7) Dance restrictions

Street dance should be a mix of styles (hip hop, popping, locking, breaking and street jazz etc and routines should not be dominated by anyone of these styles)

Dancers are not allowed to run, skip or travel round the floor and any movements off the spot must be danced with a hip hop or street action

Dancers are not restricted from performing any move but they must be aware that it is their own responsibility to ensure that they do not perform dangerous moves that could injure themselves or others.

Promoters have the right to bring in safety restrictions

8) Video and photography

Photography is only allowed at the discretion of the promoter an on no account should dancers be photographed without their permission. Each school may have their teams or groups videoed by the schools designated representative.

Competition Etiquette

a) Judges decision is final at any competition

b) At competitions only teachers or school representatives are allowed on the stage area.

c) We will not tolerate any threatening or aggressive behaviour.

d) Gangways should be kept clear at all times for safety reasons and to give free access to the floor and dancers.
